Proverbs 31

1 The words of king Lemuel; the oracle which his mother taught him.

2 What, my son? and what, O son of my womb, and what, O son of my vows?

3 Give not thy strength unto women, nor thy ways to that which destroyeth kings.

4 It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princesto say, Where is strong drink?

5 Lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any that is afflicted.

6 Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, and wine unto the bitter in soul:

7 Let him drink, and forget his poverty, and remember his misery no more.

8 Open thy mouth for the dumb, in the cause of all such as are left desolate.

9 Open thy mouth, judge righteously, and minister judgment to the poor and needy.

10 A virtuous woman who can find? for her price is far above rubies.

11 The heart of her husband trusteth in her, and he shall have no lack of gain.

12 She doeth him good and not evil all the days of her life.

13 She seeketh wool and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands.

14 She is like the merchant-ships; she bringeth her food from afar.

15 She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and their task to her maidens.

16 She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard.

17 She girdeth her loins with strength, and maketh strong her arms.

18 She perceiveth that her merchandise is profitable: her lamp goeth not out by night.

19 She layeth her hands to the distaff, and her hands hold the spindle.

20 She spreadeth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.

21 She is not afraid of the snow for her household; for all her household are clothed with scarlet.

22 She maketh for herself carpets of tapestry; her clothing is fine linen and purple.

23 Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land.

24 She maketh linen garments and selleth them; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant.

25 Strength and dignity are her clothing; and she laugheth at the time to come.

26 She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and the law of kindness is on her tongue.

27 She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.

28 Her children rise up, and call her blessed; her husbandalso, and he praiseth her, saying:

29 Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all.

30 Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain:buta woman that feareth theLord, she shall be praised.

31 Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her works praise her in the gates.

Psalms 1

1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the wicked, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.

2 But his delight is in the law of theLord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the streams of water, that bringeth forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also doth not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

4 The wicked are not so; but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away.

5 Therefore the wicked shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.

6 For theLordknoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the wicked shall perish.

Psalms 2

1 Why do the nations rage, and the peoples imagine a vain thing?

2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against theLord, and against his anointed, saying,

3 Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.

4 He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.

5 Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure:

6 Yet I have set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.

7 I will tell of the decree: theLordsaid unto me, Thou art my son; this day have I begotten thee.

8 Ask of me, and I will give thee the nations for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.

9 Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.

10 Now therefore be wise, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth.

11 Serve theLordwith fear, and rejoice with trembling.

12 Kiss the son, lest he be angry, and ye perish in the way, for his wrath will soon be kindled. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.

Psalms 3

A Psalm of David, when he fled from Absalom his son.

1 Lord, how are mine adversaries increased! many are they that rise up against me.

2 Many there be which say of my soul, There is no help for him in God. Selah

3 But thou, OLord, art a shield about me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head.

4 I cry unto theLordwith my voice, and he answereth me out of his holy hill. Selah

5 I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for theLordsustaineth me.

6 I will not be afraid of ten thousands of the people, that have set themselves against me round about.

7 Arise, OLord; save me, O my God: for thou hast smitten all mine enemies upon the cheek bone; thou hast broken the teeth of the wicked.

8 Salvation belongeth unto theLord: thy blessing be upon thy people. Selah

Psalms 4

For the Chief Musician; on stringed instruments. A Psalm of David.

1 Answer me when I call, O God of my righteousness; thou hast set me at largewhen I wasin distress: have mercy upon me, and hear my prayer.

2 O ye sons of men, how long shall my glory be turned into dishonour?how longwill ye love vanity, and seek after falsehood? Selah

3 But know that theLordhath set apart him that is godly for himself: theLordwill hear when I call unto him.

4 Stand in awe, and sin not: commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah

5 Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, and put your trust in theLord.

6 Many there be that say, Who will shew usanygood?Lord, lift thou up the light of thy countenance upon us.

7 Thou hast put gladness in my heart, more thanthey havewhen their corn and their wine are increased.

8 In peace will I both lay me down and sleep: for thou,Lord, alone makest me dwell in safety.

Psalms 5

For the Chief Musician; with the Nehiloth. A Psalm of David.

1 Give ear to my words, OLord, consider my meditation.

2 Hearken unto the voice of my cry, my King, and my God: for unto thee do I pray.

3 OLord, in the morning shalt thou hear my voice; in the morning will I ordermy prayerunto thee, and will keep watch.

4 For thou art not a God that hath pleasure in wickedness: evil shall not sojourn with thee.

5 The arrogant shall not stand in thy sight: thou hatest all workers of iniquity.

6 Thou shalt destroy them that speak lies: theLordabhorreth the bloodthirsty and deceitful man.

7 But as for me, in the multitude of thy lovingkindness will I come into thy house: in thy fear will I worship toward thy holy temple.

8 Lead me, OLord, in thy righteousness because of mine enemies; make thy way plain before my face.

9 For there is no faithfulness in their mouth; their inward part is very wickedness: their throat is an open sepulchre; they flatter with their tongue.

10 Hold them guilty, O God; let them fall by their own counsels: thrust them out in the multitude of their transgressions; for they have rebelled against thee.

11 But let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice, let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest them: let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee.

12 For thou wilt bless the righteous; OLord, thou wilt compass him with favour as with a shield.

Psalms 6

For the Chief Musician; on stringed instruments, set to the Sheminith. A Psalm of David.

1 OLord, rebuke me not in thine anger, neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure.

2 Have mercy upon me, OLord; for I am withered away: OLord, heal me; for my bones are vexed.

3 My soul also is sore vexed: and thou, OLord, how long?

4 Return, OLord, deliver my soul: save me for thy lovingkindness’ sake.

5 For in death there is no remembrance of thee: in Sheol who shall give thee thanks?

6 I am weary with my groaning; every night make I my bed to swim; I water my couch with my tears.

7 Mine eye wasteth away because of grief; it waxeth old because of all mine adversaries.

8 Depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity; for theLordhath heard the voice of my weeping.

9 TheLordhath heard my supplication; theLordwill receive my prayer.

10 All mine enemies shall be ashamed and sore vexed: they shall turn back, they shall be ashamed suddenly.

Psalms 7

Shiggaion of David, which he sang unto the Lord; concerning the words of Cush a Benjamite.

1 OLordmy God, in thee do I put my trust: save me from all them that pursue me, and deliver me:

2 Lest he tear my soul like a lion, rending it in pieces, while there is none to deliver.

3 OLordmy God, if I have done this; if there be iniquity in my hands;

4 If I have rewarded evil unto him that was at peace with me; (yea, I have delivered him that without cause was mine adversary:)

5 Let the enemy pursue my soul, and overtake it; yea, let him tread my life down to the earth, and lay my glory in the dust. Selah

6 Arise, OLord, in thine anger, lift up thyself against the rage of mine adversaries: and awake for me; thou hast commanded judgment.

7 And let the congregation of the peoples compass thee about: and over them return thou on high.

8 TheLordministereth judgment to the peoples: judge me, OLord, according to my righteousness, and to mine integrity that is in me.

9 Oh let the wickedness of the wicked come to an end, but establish thou the righteous: for the righteous God trieth the hearts and reins.

10 My shield is with God, which saveth the upright in heart.

11 God is a righteous judge, yea, a God that hath indignation every day.

12 If a man turn not, he will whet his sword; he hath bent his bow, and made it ready.

13 He hath also prepared for him the instruments of death; he maketh his arrows fieryshafts.

14 Behold, he travaileth with iniquity; yea, he hath conceived mischief, and brought forth falsehood.

15 He hath made a pit, and digged it, and is fallen into the ditch which he made.

16 His mischief shall return upon his own head, and his violence shall come down upon his own pate.

17 I will give thanks unto theLordaccording to his righteousness: and will sing praise to the name of theLordMost High.

Psalms 8

For the Chief Musician; set to the Gittith. A Psalm of David.

1 OLord, our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! who hast set thy glory upon the heavens.

2 Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou established strength, because of thine adversaries, that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger.

3 When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained;

4 What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?

5 For thou hast made him but little lower than God, and crownest him with glory and honour.

6 Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet:

7 All sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field;

8 The fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas.

9 OLord, our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!

Psalms 9

For the Chief Musician; set to Muthlabben. A Psalm of David.

1 I will give thanks unto theLordwith my whole heart; I will shew forth all thy marvelous works.

2 I will be glad and exult in thee: I will sing praise to thy name, O thou Most High.

3 When mine enemies turn back, they stumble and perish at thy presence.

4 For thou hast maintained my right and my cause; thou satest in the throne judging righteously.

5 Thou hast rebuked the nations, thou hast destroyed the wicked, thou hast blotted out their name for ever and ever.

6 The enemy are come to an end, they are desolate for ever; and the cities which thou hast overthrown, their very memorial is perished.

7 But theLordsittethas kingfor ever: he hath prepared his throne for judgment.

8 And he shall judge the world in righteousness, he shall minister judgment to the peoples in uprightness.

9 TheLordalso will be a high tower for the oppressed, a high tower in times of trouble;

10 And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee; for thou,Lord, hast not forsaken them that seek thee.

11 Sing praises to theLord, which dwelleth in Zion: declare among the people his doings.

12 For he that maketh inquisition for blood remembereth them: he forgetteth not the cry of the poor.

13 Have mercy upon me, OLord; behold my afflictionwhich I sufferof them that hate me, thou that liftest me up from the gates of death;

14 That I may shew forth all thy praise: in the gates of the daughter of Zion, I will rejoice in thy salvation.

15 The nations are sunk down in the pit that they made: in the net which they hid is their own foot taken.

16 TheLordhath made himself known, he hath executed judgment: the wicked is snared in the work of his own hands.Higgaion. Selah

17 The wicked shall return to Sheol, even all the nations that forget God.

18 For the needy shall not alway be forgotten, nor the expectation of the poor perish for ever.

19 Arise, OLord; let not man prevail: let the nations be judged in thy sight.

20 Put them in fear, OLord: let the nations know themselves to be but men. Selah
