Psalms 20

For the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David.

1 TheLordanswer thee in the day of trouble; the name of the God of Jacob set thee up on high;

2 Send thee help from the sanctuary, and strengthen thee out of Zion;

3 Remember all thy offerings, and accept thy burnt sacrifice; Selah

4 Grant thee thy heart’s desire, and fulfill all thy counsel.

5 We will triumph in thy salvation, and in the name of our God we will set up our banners: theLordfulfill all thy petitions.

6 Now know I that theLordsaveth his anointed; he wilt answer him from his holy heaven with the saving strength of his right hand.

7 Sometrustin chariots, and some in horses: but we will make mention of the name of theLordour God.

8 They are bowed down and fallen: but we are risen, and stand upright.

9 Save,Lord: let the King answer us when we call.

Psalms 21

For the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David.

1 The king shall joy in thy strength, OLord; and in thy salvation how greatly shall he rejoice!

2 Thou hast given him his heart’s desire, and hast not withholden the request of his lips. Selah

3 For thou preventest him with the blessings of goodness: thou settest a crown of fine gold on his head.

4 He asked life of thee, thou gavest it him; even length of days for ever and ever.

5 His glory is great in thy salvation: honour and majesty dost thou lay upon him.

6 For thou makest him most blessed for ever: thou makest him glad with joy in thy presence.

7 For the king trusteth in theLord, and through the lovingkindness of the Most High he shall not be moved.

8 Thine hand shall find out all thine enemies: thy right hand shall find out those that hate thee.

9 Thou shalt make them as a fiery furnace in the time of thine anger. TheLordshall swallow them up in his wrath, and the fire shall devour them.

10 Their fruit shalt thou destroy from the earth, and their seed from among the children of men.

11 For they intended evil against thee: they imagined a device, which they are not able to perform.

12 For thou shalt make them turn their back, thou shalt make ready with thy bowstrings against the face of them.

13 Be thou exalted, OLord, in thy strength: so will we sing and praise thy power.

Psalms 22

For the Chief Musician; set to Aijeleth hash-Shahar. A Psalm of David.

1 My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?why art thou sofar from helping me,and fromthe words of my roaring?

2 O my God, I cry in the day-time, but thou answerest not; and in the night season, and am not silent.

3 But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel.

4 Our fathers trusted in thee: they trusted, and thou didst deliver them.

5 They cried unto thee, and were delivered: they trusted in thee, and were not ashamed.

6 But I am a worm, and no man; a reproach of men, and despised of the people.

7 All they that see me laugh me to scorn: they shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying,

8 Committhyselfunto theLord; let him deliver him: let him deliver him, seeing he delighteth in him.

9 But thou art he that took me out the womb: thou didst make me trustwhen I wasupon my mother’s breasts.

10 I was cast upon thee from the womb: thou art my God from my mother’s belly.

11 Be not far from me; for trouble is near; for there is none to help.

12 Many bulls have compassed me: strong bulls of Bashan have beset me round.

13 They gape upon me with their mouth, asa ravening and a roaring lion.

14 I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint: my heart is like wax; it is melted in the midst of my bowels.

15 My Strength is dried up like a potsherd; and my tongue cleaveth to my jaws; and thou hast brought me into the dust of death.

16 For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of evil-doers have enclosed me; they pierced my hands and my feet.

17 I may tell all my bones; they look and stare upon me:

18 They part my garments among them, and upon my vesture do they cast lots.

19 But be not thou far off, OLord: O thou my succour, haste thee to help me.

20 Deliver my soul from the sword; my darling from the power of the dog;

21 Save me from the lion’s mouth; yea, from the horns of the wild-oxen thou hast answered me.

22 I will declare thy name unto my brethren: in the midst of the congregation will I praise thee.

23 Ye that fear theLord, praise him; all ye the seed of Jacob, glorify him; and stand in awe of him, all ye the seed of Israel.

24 For he hath not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted; neither hath he hid his face from him; but when he cried unto him, he heard.

25 Of thee cometh my praise in the great congregation: I will pay my vows before them that fear him.

26 The meek shall eat and be satisfied: they shall praise theLordthat seek after him: let your heart live for ever.

27 All the ends of the earth shall remember and turn unto theLord: and all the kindreds of the nations shall worship before thee.

28 For the kingdom is theLord’S: and he is the ruler over the nations.

29 All the fat ones of the earth shall eat and worship: all they that go down to the dust shall bow before him, even he that cannot keep his soul alive.

30 A seed shall serve him; it shall be told of the Lord unto thenextgeneration.

31 They shall come and shall declare his righteousness unto a people that shall be born, that he hath done it.

Psalms 23

A Psalm of David.

1 TheLordis my shepherd; I shall not want.

2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

3 He restoreth my soul: he guideth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for thou art with me: thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me.

5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou hast anointed my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of theLordfor ever.

Psalms 24

A Psalm of David.

1 The earth is theLord’S, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.

2 For he hath founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the floods.

3 Who shall ascend into the hill of theLord? and who shall stand in his holy place?

4 He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, and hath not sworn deceitfully.

5 He shall receive a blessing from theLord, and righteousness from the God of his salvation.

6 This is the generation of them that seek after him, that seek thy face,O God ofJacob. Selah

7 Lift up your heads, O ye gates; and be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors: and the King of glory shall come in.

8 Who is the King of glory? TheLordstrong and mighty, theLordmighty in battle.

9 Lift up your heads, O ye gates; yea, lift them up, ye everlasting doors: and the King of glory shall come in.

10 Who is this King of glory? TheLordof hosts, he is the King of glory. Selah

Psalms 25

A Psalm

of David.

1 Unto thee, OLord, do I lift up my soul.

2 O my God, in thee have I trusted, let me not be ashamed; let not mine enemies triumph over me.

3 Yea, none that wait on thee shall be ashamed: they shall be ashamed that deal treacherously without cause.

4 Shew me thy ways, OLord; teach me thy paths.

5 Guide me in thy truth, and teach me; for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day.

6 Remember, OLord, thy tender mercies and thy lovingkindnesses; for they have been ever of old.

7 Remember not the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions: according to thy lovingkindness remember thou me, for thy goodness’ sake, OLord.

8 Good and upright is theLord: therefore will he instruct sinners in the way.

9 The meek will he guide in judgment: and the meek will he teach his way.

10 All the paths of theLordare lovingkindness and truth unto such as keep his covenant and his testimonies.

11 For thy name’s sake, OLord, pardon mine iniquity, for it is great.

12 What man is he that feareth theLord? him shall he instruct in the way that he shall choose.

13 His soul shall dwell at ease; and his seed shall inherit the land.

14 The secret of theLordis with them that fear him; and he will shew them his covenant.

15 Mine eyes are ever toward theLord; for he shall pluck my feet out of the net.

16 Turn thee unto me, and have mercy upon me; for I am desolate and afflicted.

17 The troubles of my heart are enlarged: O bring thou me out of my distresses.

18 Consider mine affliction and my travail; and forgive all my sins.

19 Consider mine enemies, for they are many; and they hate me with cruel hatred.

20 O keep my soul, and deliver me: let me not be ashamed, for I put my trust in thee.

21 Let integrity and uprightness preserve me, for I wait on thee.

22 Redeem Israel, O God, out of all his troubles.

Psalms 26

A Psalm

of David.

1 Judge me, OLord, for I have walked in mine integrity: I have trusted also in theLordwithout wavering.

2 Examine me, OLord, and prove me; try my reins and my heart.

3 For thy lovingkindness is before mine eyes; and I have walked in thy truth.

4 I have not sat with vain persons; neither will I go in with dissemblers.

5 I hate the congregation of evil-doers, and will not sit with the wicked.

6 I will wash mine hands in innocency; so will I compass thine altar, OLord:

7 That I may make the voice of thanksgiving to be heard, and tell of all thy wondrous works.

8 Lord, I love the habitation of thy house, and the place where thy glory dwelleth.

9 Gather not my soul with sinners, nor my life with men of blood:

10 In whose hands is mischief, and their right hand is full of bribes.

11 But as for me, I will walk in mine integrity: redeem me, and be merciful unto me.

12 My foot standeth in an even place: in the congregations will I bless theLord.

Psalms 27

A Psalm

of David.

1 TheLordis my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? theLordis the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

2 When evil-doers came upon me to eat up my flesh, evenmine adversaries and my foes, they stumbled and fell.

3 Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, even then will I be confident.

4 One thing have I asked of theLord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of theLordall the days of my life, to behold the beauty of theLord, and to inquire in his temple.

5 For in the day of trouble he shall keep me secretly in his pavilion: in the covert of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall lift me up upon a rock.

6 And now shall mine head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me; and I will offer in his tabernacle sacrifices of joy; I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto theLord.

7 Hear, OLord, when I cry with my voice: have mercy also upon me, and answer me.

8 When thou saidst, Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee, Thy face,Lord, will I seek.

9 Hide not thy face from me; put not thy servant away in anger: thou hast been my help; cast me not off, neither forsake me, O God of my salvation.

10 For my father and my mother have forsaken me, but theLordwill take me up.

11 Teach me thy way, OLord; and lead me in a plain path, because of mine enemies.

12 Deliver me not over unto the will of mine adversaries: for false witnesses are risen up against me, and such as breathe out cruelty.

13 I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of theLordin the land of the living.

14 Wait on theLord: be strong, and let thine heart take courage; yea, wait thou on theLord.

Psalms 28

A Psalm

of David.

1 Unto thee, OLord, will I call; my rock, be not thou deaf unto me: lest, if thou be silent unto me, I become like them that go down into the pit.

2 Hear the voice of my supplications, when I cry unto thee, when I lift up my hands toward thy holy oracle.

3 Draw me not away with the wicked, and with the workers of iniquity; which speak peace with their neighbours, but mischief is in their hearts.

4 Give them according to their work, and according to the wickedness of their doings: give them after the operation of their hands; render to them their desert.

5 Because they regard not the works of theLord, nor the operation of his hands, he shall break them down and not build them up.

6 Blessed be theLord, because he hath heard the voice of my supplications.

7 TheLordis my strength and my shield; my heart hath trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will praise him.

8 TheLordis their strength, and he is a strong hold of salvation to his anointed.

9 Save thy people, and bless thine inheritance: feed them also, and bear them up for ever.

Psalms 29

A Psalm of David.

1 Give unto theLord, O ye sons of the mighty, give unto theLordglory and strength.

2 Give unto theLordthe glory due unto his name; worship theLordin the beauty of holiness.

3 The voice of theLordis upon the waters: the God of glory thundereth, even theLordupon many waters.

4 The voice of theLordis powerful; the voice of theLordis full of majesty.

5 The voice of theLordbreaketh the cedars; yea, theLordbreaketh in pieces the cedars of Lebanon.

6 He maketh them also to skip like a calf; Lebanon and Sirion like a young wild-ox.

7 The voice of theLordcleaveth the flames of fire.

8 The voice of theLordshaketh the wilderness; theLordshaketh the wilderness of Kadesh.

9 The voice of theLordmaketh the hinds to calve, and strippeth the forests bare: and in his temple every thing saith, Glory.

10 TheLordsatas kingat the Flood; yea, theLordsitteth as king for ever.

11 TheLordwill give strength unto his people; theLordwill bless his people with peace.
