Psalms 140

For the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David.

1 Deliver me, OLord, from the evil man; preserve me from the violent man:

2 Which imagine mischiefs in their heart; continually do they gather themselves together for war.

3 They have sharpened their tongue like a serpent; adders’ poison is under their lips. Selah

4 Keep me, OLord, from the hands of the wicked; preserve me from the violent man: Who have purposed to thrust aside my steps.

5 The proud have hid a snare for me, and cords; they have spread a net by the way side; they have set gins for me. Selah

6 I said unto theLord, Thou art my God: give ear unto the voice of my supplications, OLord.

7 OGODthe Lord, the strength of my salvation, thou hast covered my head in the day of battle.

8 Grant not, OLord, the desires of the wicked; further not his evil device;lestthey exalt themselves. Selah

9 As for the head of those that compass me about, let the mischief of their own lips cover them.

10 Let burning coals fall upon them: let them be cast into the fire; into deep pits, that they rise not up again.

11 An evil speaker shall not be established in the earth: evil shall hunt the violent man to overthrow him.

12 I know that theLordwill maintain the cause of the afflicted, and the right of the needy.

13 Surely the righteous shall give thanks unto thy name: the upright shall dwell in thy presence.

Psalms 141

A Psalm of David.

1 Lord, I have called upon thee; make haste unto me: give ear unto my voice, when I call unto thee.

2 Let my prayer be set forth as incense before thee; the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.

3 Set a watch, OLord, before my mouth; keep the door of my tips.

4 Incline not my heart to any evil thing, to be occupied in deeds of wickedness with men that work iniquity: and let me not eat of their dainties.

5 Let the righteous smite me,it shall bea kindness; and let him reprove me,it shall be asoil upon the head; let not my head refuse it: for even in their wickedness shall my prayer continue.

6 Their judges are thrown down by the sides of the rock; and they shall hear my words; for they are sweet.

7 As when one ploweth and cleaveth the earth, our bones are scattered at the grave’s mouth.

8 For mine eyes are unto thee, OGODthe Lord: in thee do I put my trust; leave not my soul destitute.

9 Keep me from the snare which they have laid for me, and from the gins of the workers of iniquity.

10 Let the wicked fall into their own nets, whilst that I withal escape.

Psalms 142

Maschil of David, when he was in the cave; a Prayer.

1 I cry with my voice unto theLord; with my voice unto theLorddo I make supplication.

2 I pour out my complaint before him; I shew before him my trouble.

3 When my spirit was overwhelmed within me, thou knewest my path. In the way wherein I walk have they hidden a snare for me.

4 Look onmyright hand, and see; for there is no man that knoweth me: refuge hath failed me; no man careth for my soul.

5 I cried unto thee, OLord; I said, Thou art my refuge, my portion in the land of the living.

6 Attend unto my cry; for I am brought very low: deliver me from my persecutors; for they are stronger than I.

7 Bring my soul out of prison, that I may give thanks unto thy name: the righteous shall compass me about; for thou shalt deal bountifully with me.

Psalms 143

A Psalm of David.

1 Hear my prayer, OLord; give ear to my supplications: in thy faithfulness answer me,andin thy righteousness.

2 And enter not into judgment with thy servant; for in thy sight shall no man living be justified.

3 For the enemy hath persecuted my soul; he hath smitten my life down to the ground: he hath made me to dwell in dark places, as those that have been long dead.

4 Therefore is my spirit overwhelmed within me; my heart within me is desolate.

5 I remember the days of old; I meditate on all thy doings: I muse on the work of thy hands.

6 I spread forth my hands unto thee: my soulthirstethafter thee, as a weary land. Selah

7 Make haste to answer me, OLord; my spirit faileth: hide not thy face from me; lest I become like them that go down into the pit.

8 Cause me to hear thy lovingkindness in the morning; for in thee do I trust: cause me to know the way wherein I should walk; for I lift up my soul unto thee.

9 Deliver me, OLord, from mine enemies: I flee unto thee to hide me.

10 Teach me to do thy will; for thou art my God: thy spirit is good; lead me in the land of uprightness.

11 Quicken me, OLord, for thy name’s sake: in thy righteousness bring my soul out of trouble.

12 And in thy lovingkindness cut off mine enemies, and destroy all them that afflict my soul; for I am thy servant.

Psalms 144

A Psalm off

David.

1 Blessed be theLordmy rock, which teacheth my hands to war,andmy fingers to fight:

2 My lovingkindness, and my fortress, my high tower, and my deliverer; my shield, and he in whom I trust; who subdueth my people under me.

3 Lord, what is man, that thou takest knowledge of him? or the son of man, that thou makest account of him?

4 Man is like to vanity: his days are as a shadow that passeth away.

5 Bow thy heavens, OLord, and come down: touch the mountains, and they shall smoke.

6 Cast forth lightning, and scatter them; send out thine arrows, and discomfit them.

7 Stretch forth thine hand from above; rescue me, and deliver me out of great waters, out of the hand of strangers;

8 Whose mouth speaketh vanity, and their right hand is a right hand of falsehood.

9 I will sing a new song unto thee, O God: upon a psaltery of ten strings will I sing praises unto thee.

10 It is he that giveth salvation unto kings: who rescueth David his servant from the hurtful sword.

11 Rescue me, and deliver me out of the hand of strangers, whose mouth speaketh vanity, and their right hand is a right hand of falsehood.

12 When our sons shall be as plants grown up in their youth; and our daughters as corner stones hewn after the fashion of a palace;

13 Whenour garners are full, affording all manner of store;andour sheep bring forth thousands and ten thousands in our fields;

14 Whenour oxen are well laden;when there isno breaking in, and no going forth, and no outcry in our streets;

15 Happy is the people, that is in such a case:yea, happy is the people, whose God is theLord.

Psalms 145

A Psalm of

praise; of David.

1 I will extol thee, my God, O King; and I will bless thy name for ever and ever.

2 Every day will I bless thee; and I will praise thy name for ever and ever.

3 Great is theLord, and highly to be praised; and his greatness is unsearchable.

4 One generation shall laud thy works to another, and shall declare thy mighty acts.

5 Of the glorious majesty of thine honour, and of thy wondrous works, will I meditate.

6 And men shall speak of the might of thy terrible acts; and I will declare thy greatness.

7 They shall utter the memory of thy great goodness, and shall sing of thy righteousness.

8 TheLordis gracious, and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy.

9 TheLordis good to all; and his tender mercies are over all his works.

10 All thy works shall give thanks unto thee, OLord; and thy saints shall bless thee.

11 They shall speak of the glory of thy kingdom, and talk of thy power;

12 To make known to the sons of men his mighty acts, and the glory of the majesty of his kingdom.

13 Thy kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and thy dominionendureththroughout all generations.

14 TheLordupholdeth all that fall, and raiseth up all those that be bowed down.

15 The eyes of all wait upon thee; and thou givest them their meat in due season.

16 Thou openest thine hand, and satisfiest the desire of every living thing.

17 TheLordis righteous in all his ways, and gracious in all his works.

18 TheLordis nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth.

19 He will fulfill the desire of them that fear him; he also will hear their cry, and will save them.

20 TheLordpreserveth all them that love him; but all the wicked will he destroy.

21 My mouth shall speak the praise of theLord; and let all flesh bless his holy name for ever and ever.

Psalms 146

1 Praise ye theLord. Praise theLord, O my soul.

2 While I live will I praise theLord: I will sing praises unto my God while I have any being.

3 Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help.

4 His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish.

5 Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in theLordhis God:

6 Which made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is; which keepeth truth for ever:

7 Which executeth judgment for the oppressed; which giveth food to the hungry: theLordlooseth the prisoners;

8 TheLordopeneththe eyes ofthe blind; theLordraiseth up them that are bowed down; theLordloveth the righteous;

9 TheLordpreserveth the strangers; he upholdeth the fatherless and widow; but the way of the wicked he turneth upside down.

10 TheLordshall reign for ever, thy God, O Zion, unto all generations. Praise ye theLord.

Psalms 147

1 Praise ye theLord; for it is good to sing praises unto our God; for it is pleasant,andpraise is comely.

2 TheLorddoth build up Jerusalem; he gathereth together the outcasts of Israel.

3 He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.

4 He telleth the number of the stars; he giveth them all their names.

5 Great is our Lord, and mighty in power; his understanding is infinite.

6 TheLordupholdeth the meek: he bringeth the wicked down to the ground.

7 Sing unto theLordwith thanksgiving; sing praises upon the harp unto our God:

8 Who covereth the heaven with clouds, who prepareth rain for the earth, who maketh grass to grow upon the mountains.

9 He giveth to the beast his food, and to the young ravens which cry.

10 He delighteth not in the strength of the horse: he taketh no pleasure in the legs of a man.

11 TheLordtaketh pleasure in them that fear him, in those that hope in his mercy.

12 Praise theLord, O Jerusalem; praise thy God, O Zion.

13 For he hath strengthened the bars of thy gates; he hath blessed thy children within thee.

14 He maketh peace in thy borders; he filleth thee with the finest of the wheat.

15 He sendeth out his commandment upon earth; his word runneth very swiftly.

16 He giveth snow like wool; he scattereth the hoar frost like ashes.

17 He casteth forth his ice like morsels: who can stand before his cold?

18 He sendeth out his word, and melteth them: he causeth his wind to blow, and the waters flow.

19 He sheweth his word unto Jacob, his statutes and his judgments unto Israel.

20 He hath not dealt so with any nation: and as for his judgments, they have not known them. Praise ye theLord.

Psalms 148

7 Praise theLordfrom the earth, ye dragons, and all deeps:

8 Fire and hail, snow and vapour; stormy wind, fulfilling his word:

9 Mountains and all hills; fruitful trees and all cedars:

10 Beasts and all cattle; creeping things and flying fowl:

11 Kings of the earth and all peoples; princes and all judges of the earth:

12 Both young men and maidens; old men and children:

13 Let them praise the name of theLord; for his name alone is exalted: his glory is above the earth and heaven.

14 And he hath lifted up the horn of his people, the praise of all his saints; even of the children of Israel, a people near unto him. Praise ye theLord.

Psalms 149

1 Praise ye theLord. Sing unto theLorda new song, and his praise in the assembly of the saints.

2 Let Israel rejoice in him that made him: let the children of Zion be joyful in their King.

4 For theLordtaketh pleasure in his people: he will beautify the meek with salvation.

5 Let the saints exult in glory: let them sing for joy upon their beds.

6 Letthe high praises of Godbein their mouth, and a two-edged sword in their hand;

8 To bind their king’s with chains, and their nobles with fetters of iron;

9 To execute upon them the judgment written: this honour have all his saints. Praise ye theLord.
